Here's a photo of the extended family of King's Kids during our commissioning service in October. This year youth from 22 churches stretching from Horizon City to Las Cruces are involved in our local teams.
The 9-13 year old Junior Team has finished several weeks of training and will do their first outreach this month, with 29 kids going to a nursing home to minister to the elderly people there.
Last month the Senior Team participated in a city wide youth conference in El Paso. Our team taught seven workshops on Godly relationships, abortion, worldviews and religions, worship, using arts for God, purity and the persecuted church. They also performed choreographed music and drama for the conference. We'll go to a much larger conference in Los Lunas, New Mexico in January and do the same workshops again.
In December the Senior Team will reach out at the plaza in downtown El Paso to Christmas shoppers, families and homeless people. We'll use Christmas carols, hot chocolate and cookies to draw in the people and then present the Gospel message.
Spring Break OutreachesAt this time we are not taking any young people into Mexico due to violence between the drug cartels in Juarez. This year Spring Break Outreach, which is a major part of our ministry to youth and families, will be held in El Paso with a great new direction the Lord has given us. We already have groups from California to South Carolina coming as well as local church youth groups from El Paso. Groups will choose from seven different outreaches offered each day, and at night we'll have worship and ministry to draw kids close to the Lord. Loch is the director of YWAM Calcutta and the shelter ministry to street families. The Shelter provides meals, literacy education, and Christian discipleship for children whose families are among the poorest of the poor living on the streets of Calcutta. There is even a night shelter that provides a safe place of refuge for young girls to sleep and be ministered to. Christmas is a very open time to minister and a time of great need for workers.
After recent developments in India, it is evident that this is a very critical time for this nation that is predominantly Hindu and has a very large and expanding Muslim population. India is among the nations of the world where Christians a being persecuted, discriminated against, and even killed. These things are not sanctioned by the Indian government but in practice still occur. This return trip to India was planned long before the eruption of persecution that happened in late summer and the attacks over Thanksgiving, but I am amazed at and confident in God sending me at this time. I believe that in addition to the practical ministry I am going there to pray.
I’ll be leaving on December 17 and returning on January 30, just about six weeks. Please pray with and for me and if you would like to help financially, checks can be made out to and sent to King’s Kids with a note saying Yvette – India Outreach. Thank you and I’ll see you all in February.
New Staff MemberJade Jenkins, age 22, was on the Senior Team with KKEP until she graduated from high school and went into YWAM. She completed the Discipleship Training School in San Francisco and traveled on mission outreach to Italy and Turkey. After four years on staff doing inner city ministry with kids in one of the worst neighborhoods in San Francisco, she has come back to work part time on our staff and go to college. We're blessed to have her join us!
